Last year I surprised my husband for his birthday with a weekend away in London.
London is one of my absolute favourite cities in the world, in this previous post I took you with me for a 3 days getaway in the summer, this time it will be only 2 days and in autumn.
Hopefully this post will help or inspire you if you're planning your next trip.
I woke up before sunrise to catch the same super early flight, very tiring but it's the best way to spend as much time as possible in the british capital, since we don't have much of it.
I booked a room at the Citizen M in Shoreditch (I highly recommend you to check my previous London post to get more details about this accomodation) and they were so kind (shoutout to Kevin) to make us find a greeting card for my husband's birthday with the first hint for a treasure hunt in the hotel, we had so much fun!
L'anno scorso ho regalato a mio marito un weekend a sorpresa a Londra per il suo compleanno.
Londra è una delle mie città preferite in assoluto, in
questo post precedente vi ho portati con me in un weekend lungo estivo, adesso invece vi racconto questi due intensi giorni di autunno, sperando di esservi utile o anche solo ispirarvi nel caso vogliate programmare un viaggio.
Solito volo ad orario proibitivo e sveglia prima dell'alba, stancante ma al contempo il modo migliore per trascorrere più tempo possibile nella capitale britannica avendone così poco a disposizione.
Ho prenotato di nuovo al
Citizen M di Shoreditch (vi raccomando di leggere il post precedente per avere più dettagli su questo albergo) e sono stati così carini (nello specifico Kevin) da farci trovare in camera un biglietto di auguri per mio marito con un indizio per una caccia al tesoro al quale noi non ci siamo ovviamente sottratti, ed è stato divertentissimo!
DAY ONE
My husband is Michael Jackson's number one fan, so this exhibition seemed just the perfect gift, like icing on the cake!
"On The Wall" included several art works made by various artists inspired by the King of Pop and some memorabilia, like his famous white glove, one of his incredible leather jackets and even a pair of his iconic loafers.
It was a glorious time travel down to memory lane, the most emotional part was definitively the room with the videos of all the fans singing his hits.
We decided to get a magnet and then I also got a pair of star shaped earrings made by designer Jessica Russell Flint for the exhibition.
Mio marito è un fan sfegatato di Michael Jackson e questa mostra sembrava il regalo perfetto, la ciliegina sulla torta!
"On The Wall" raccoglieva un mix di opere di vari artisti ispirati dal re del pop e anche alcuni memorabilia, come il suo famoso guanto bianco, una delle sue incredibili giacche di pelle e persino i suoi mocassini.
E' stato un bellissimo viaggio nei ricordi, sicuramente la parte più emozionante è stata la sala dove venivano proiettati video di fan che cantavano le sue canzoni più famose.
Come ricordo abbiamo preso l'immancabile calamita ed io anche un paio di orecchini a forma di stella disegnati dalla designer
Jessica Russell Flint proprio per la mostra.
Since we didn't manage to have breakfast and lunch time was running over, we decided to have brunch at our favourite place, The Breackfast Club (Soho).
My perfect order would be an avocado toast with poched egg and the vanilla berries pancakes.
The food portions are huge and taste delicious, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.
The only downside is the queue, since is such a popular place (all the different locations actually) you need to wait quite a lot for a table, try to be patient or show up before the opening time!
Visto che non avevamo ancora fatto colazione ed era ormai quasi passata l'ora di pranzo abbiamo optato per un brunch nel nostro posto preferito,
The Breackfast Club (Soho).
Il mio ordine perfetto per due? Avocado toast con uovo pochè e i pancakes con crema e frutti di bosco, le porzioni sono giganti e il cibo delizioso, rimarrete più che soddisfatti.
Unica pecca? La fila solitamente è interminabile in tutte le location ed aumenta in maniera spropositata durante il weekend, armatevi di pazienza o andateci all'apertura!
We had special plans for dinner so we went back to our hotel to rest and fresh up.
Vista la cena speciale che ci aspettava siamo andati in albergo a riposare e a prepararci per la serata.
The birthday dinner had to be in a special location, that's why I booked a table (thanks to our lovely londoner friend) at Hutong at the Shard's 33rd floor.
While enjoying the incredible view we tasted some of Hutong signature dishes, such as:
- the Dim Sum Platter, with a selection of dim sums;
- the Spring Rolls, a fancy version of this chinese classic;
- the Roasted Pecking Duck, which is served in two ways: filleted directly at your table by one of the cheffs to be combined with chives and spicy or sweet and sour sauces in a rice flower steamed roll, then the left is chopped seasoned with veggies and served as a side dish;
- last but not least my husband couldn't say no to the Red Lantern, fried soft shell crabs with sichuan pepper.
It was a dinner to remember.
La cena di compleanno non poteva che essere in un posto speciale, siamo stati da
Hutong al trentatreesimo piano dello Shard.
Godendo di una vista mozzafiato abbiamo assaggiato alcuni tra i loro piatti più conosciuti, tra cui:
- il Dim Sum Platter, con una selezione di ravioli al vapore;
- gli Spring Rolls, una versione davvero gustosa di questo classico della cucina cinese;
- la Roasted Pecking Duck, che viene servita in due modi: sfilettata e sporzionata al tavolo direttamente da uno degli chef (davvero interessante da guardare) e si gusta con erba cipollina accompagnata con una scelta di salse piccanti ed agrodolci all'interno di una sfoglia di farina di riso rotonda cotta al vapore, poi le parti rimanenti vengono tagliate a cubetti mischiate con verdure e servite come contorno;
- per ultimo mio marito non ha saputo resistere al Red Lantern, ovvero le moleche (granchi dal guscio morbido) fritte e condite con peperoncino sichuan.
Un'esperienza da ricordare.
DAY TWO
During october usually the parlour gets decorated for halloween and also the menu has some special cakes and cupcakes for the occasion.
Every time the deliciousness of the sweets and all the details leave us speachless, I highly recommend it!

Since I'm a beauty blogger (in my spare time) I'm always searching for beauty related news and events, that's why I knew that By Terry launched a Palette Factory in Selfridges and I had to go and see what was all about.
It was like getting access to a mini lab, there were 62 different pigments to create almost 5.000 palettes combination and I had a blast!
I will dedicate an entire post to this amazing experience, so if you are into beauty related stuff stay tuned!

By Terry aveva da poco inaugurato la Palette Factory da
Selfridges, quindi ho deciso di andare a vedere di cosa si trattasse.
E'stato come entrare in un mini laboratorio, 62 pigmenti colorati per creare fino a 5000 combinazioni diverse di cialde ed è stato pazzesco!
Vi racconterò tutto nel dettaglio in un post dedicato, quindi se siete interessati a tutto ciò che riguarda il mondo beauty state nei paraggi!
We then had lunch at Ippudo in Central Saint Giles, a mixed-use development in central London, designed by italian architect Renzo Piano, very recognizable for the buildings facades covered with vivid colours enamelled tiles.
We had our first Ippudo Ramen in Ginza (Tokyo) close to the Kabukiza and we fell in love.
London for us is also the capital of authentic ethnic food so every time we go, we try something new.
We had a Shiromaru ramen with extra chashu, which is the classic tonkotsu ramen, and an Akamaru ramen, which is a new take on the classic tonkotsu broth, infused with special miso paste and garlic oil.
We also had gyoza and karaage, everything was delicious.
Pranzo da
Ippudo a Central Saint Giles, un complesso di edifici davvero particolari progettati da Renzo Piano, riconoscibilissimi per le facciate ricoperte di sgargianti piastrelle smaltate.
Abbiamo avuto modo di provare il ramen di Ippudo a Tokyo, vicino al celebre teatro Kabukiza e ce ne siamo innamorati, Londra è sicuramente la capitale della gastronomia etnica e tutte le volte che ci andiamo ne approfittiamo.
Abbiamo scelto due ramen, lo Shiromaru con extra chashu, un tonkotsu ramen classico, e un Akamaru Modern, che rivisita il classico tonkotsu con l'aggiunta di una speciale pasta di miso e olio all'aglio, il tutto accompagnato da gyoza e una mini porzione di karaage, tutto buonissimo!
To keep the Japan thread we tried Tombo for a traditional matcha and a monaka (icecream sandwitch with matcha icecream.)
We enjoyed the laid back atmosphere and the flavorfull green tea so much we decided to buy their matcha powder and matcha latte blend, and we found out it's made in Uji (where matcha was invented), of course everything had to be in Hello kitty packaging.
Per restare in tema Giappone, abbiamo provato
Tombo per un matcha tradizionale ed un monaka (sandwìtch gelato) con gelato al matcha.
L'atmosfera tranquilla e l'ottimo the verde ci hanno fatto scegliere di comprare sia della matcha powder, che abbiamo scoperto venire direttamente da Uji (dove è nato il matcha) ed un preparato per matcha latte, il tutto in delizioso packaging hello kitty.
We had some spare time left so we had a walk through Trafalgar Square and then to Chinatown and because of our sweet tooth we indulged ourselves with a bubblewrap at Bubblewrap London, a hot bubbly waffle with ice cream and as many toppings as you like, so yummy.
At that time they had a special collaboration with Hello Kitty, so I had to get the Hello Kitty shaped chocolate and a pin with her as a bubblewrap topping, kawaii things always get me.
Era rimasto tempo per una passeggiata in centro, tra Trafalgar Square e China Town, e visto che siamo golosi, abbiamo diviso un bubblewrap da
Bubblewrap London, un waffle caldo a palline che racchiude gelato e tante altre delizie a vostra scelta, superlativo.
Dato che proprio in quel periodo il negozio aveva un evento speciale per Hello Kitty, potevo io rimanere indifferente? Ovviamente no, così ho acquistato dei cioccolatini a forma di Hello Kitty e una spilletta che la ritrae all'interno di un bubblewrap, adoro le cose kawaii, che ci posso fare?
We went back to Citizen M to get our trolleys, had a quick stroll through Shoreditch and then we took the Stansted Express from Liverpool Street.
I always (and I mean it) have a chicken avocado sandwich with a ginger shot and a chocolate pudding from Pret A Manger at Stansted and that's it, time to go back home.
Abbiamo poi recuperato i nostri trolley al Citizen M e passeggiato per Shoreditch prima di prendere lo Stansted Express a Liverpool Street.
Immancabile un chicken avocado sandwich, con un ginger shot e un budino al cioccolato, da
Pret A Manger a Stansted e si ritorna a casa.
